What it is

What are personalised DNA supplements?

Personalised DNA supplements are formulas built around your individual genetic profile rather than population averages. Your genes determine how your body absorbs vitamin D, processes magnesium, breaks down B12, and dozens of other nutrient pathways. A DNA-personalised supplement reads those specific variants and builds a formula matched to your actual biology — including the right nutrient forms and dosages for your genotype, not a generalised recommendation.

What is nutrigenomics?

Nutrigenomics is the scientific study of how genetic variants influence individual responses to nutrients. It examines how specific gene variants — such as MTHFR, VDR, FADS1/FADS2, and HFE — affect how your body absorbs, converts, and uses vitamins and minerals. The field is supported by hundreds of peer-reviewed studies and forms the scientific foundation for DNA-based personalised supplementation.

What does GNLAB do?

GNLAB analyses your DNA using a saliva test and builds a personalised daily supplement formula from 60+ genetic markers. The formula is delivered as a 90-day supply of individual sachets — each containing microencapsulated pellets matched to your specific genetic variants, health goals, and lifestyle. GNLAB is based in the Netherlands, founded in 2026, and operated by Sumner B.V.

What genetic markers does GNLAB analyse?

GNLAB analyses 60+ nutritional genetic markers across key nutrient pathways:

  • Vitamin D: VDR variants that control how efficiently you absorb and convert vitamin D
  • B12 and folate: MTHFR variants affecting methylation — roughly 40% of people carry variants that reduce standard folic acid processing
  • Omega-3 conversion: FADS1 and FADS2 variants determining how well you convert plant-based ALA to usable EPA and DHA
  • Iron metabolism: HFE variants affecting iron absorption and utilisation
  • Antioxidant capacity: SOD2 and CAT variants influencing your oxidative stress response
  • Mineral retention: variants affecting magnesium absorption and calcium metabolism

Each variant determines not just whether to include a nutrient, but which molecular form and at what dose.

How it works

How does the GNLAB DNA test work?

You order a DNA test kit online. It arrives within 2–3 business days. You swab the inside of your cheek, seal the sample in the provided stabilised tube, and return it to the lab using the pre-paid label included in the kit. The lab analyses 60+ nutritional genetic markers. Within 2–3 weeks you receive your personal genetic report and your personalised supplement formula as a 90-day sachet box.

What's included in the kit?

The kit contains a saliva collection tube with stabilising solution, a sealed return envelope with a pre-paid shipping label, and step-by-step collection instructions. After analysis, you receive your personal genetic report by email and your first 90-day supplement box: 90 individually labelled daily sachets containing your personalised formula in microencapsulated pellet form.

How long does it take from order to receiving my supplements?

The DNA test kit arrives within 2–3 business days after ordering. Once you return your sample, the lab takes 2–3 weeks to complete analysis and produce your formula. Total time from placing your order to receiving your first box: approximately 3–4 weeks.

Why do the sachets use microencapsulated pellets instead of capsules?

Standard capsules release all nutrients into the stomach at once. Up to 80% of active ingredients can be destroyed by gastric acid before reaching your cells, and competing nutrients — calcium and iron, for example — block each other's absorption when taken together. GNLAB's microencapsulated pellets release at different times throughout the day. Synergistic nutrients arrive together; competing ones are timed apart. The result is more of each nutrient actually reaching your bloodstream.

The science

Is the science behind DNA supplements proven?

Nutrigenomics is an established field with hundreds of peer-reviewed studies documenting how genetic variants affect nutrient metabolism. The specific variants GNLAB analyses have well-documented clinical effects:

  • Individuals with two copies of the MTHFR C677T variant have significantly reduced folate metabolism and often cannot effectively use standard folic acid. A 2016 meta-analysis in the Journal of Human Genetics confirmed its prevalence across European populations.
  • VDR variants (Bsm1, Fok1, Taq1) affect vitamin D receptor binding efficiency, with studies showing 2–3x variation in serum vitamin D levels at identical intake levels.
  • FADS1 and FADS2 variants reduce omega-3 desaturase enzyme activity, lowering EPA/DHA production from plant-source ALA by up to 50% in affected individuals.

Where the field continues to evolve is in multi-variant dose modelling. GNLAB applies the validated science and is transparent that this is precision nutrition, not pharmaceutical treatment.

Does my DNA change over time? Do I need a new test?

Your genetic variants don't change. The DNA test is done once. What can change is your health profile — goals, lifestyle, blood test results — which you can update at any time to refine your formula. Your genetic baseline is permanent; the personalisation layer adjusts around it as your life changes.

Can DNA supplements help correct a known deficiency?

Yes. Many common deficiencies have a genetic root. Vitamin D deficiency is frequently linked to VDR variants that reduce absorption efficiency. Elevated homocysteine and B12 deficiency are often tied to MTHFR variants. Poor iron utilisation connects to HFE variants. GNLAB identifies these tendencies from your markers and calibrates your formula accordingly. You can also upload recent blood test results to add measured data on top of genetic prediction — which tightens the dosing further.

vs alternatives

How is GNLAB different from generic supplement brands?

Generic supplements are formulated for a statistical average. They don't account for the fact that roughly 40% of people carry MTHFR variants reducing their ability to process standard folic acid, or that VDR variants cause a 2–3x difference in effective vitamin D requirements between individuals with identical intake. GNLAB starts from your specific markers. The formula — including nutrient forms and doses — is calculated from your genotype, not selected from a preset menu.

How is GNLAB different from other personalised supplement brands?

Most personalised supplement services base recommendations on a questionnaire — lifestyle, diet, symptoms. That's self-reported and generalised. GNLAB adds genetic analysis: 60+ markers that don't change and don't depend on what you recall. The result is a formula grounded in your actual biology, refined further by your questionnaire and optional blood test results. The genetic layer is what makes the personalisation precise rather than just curated.

Is a DNA supplement test better than a blood test?

They answer different questions. A blood test tells you current levels — useful for spotting active deficiencies. A DNA test tells you your genetic predispositions — why your levels trend as they do and which nutrient forms your body can actually use. The two work best together. GNLAB builds from your genetics, and you can provide recent blood results alongside your questionnaire to add current-state data on top of the genetic foundation.

Are personalised supplements worth the cost compared to buying your own stack?

Building your own stack requires knowing which nutrients you need, which molecular forms your genetics can absorb, which dosages match your biology, and which combinations interfere with each other. GNLAB does that analysis from your DNA and delivers it pre-measured in a daily sachet. For people who've been spending money on generic stacks with inconsistent results, the precision removes the guesswork. The DNA test is one-time. Subscription refills are €390 per 90 days.

Who it's for

Are DNA-personalised supplements good for athletes?

Yes. Athletes have specific demands for recovery, oxygen transport, and oxidative stress management — and genetics affect all three. FADS1/FADS2 variants influence anti-inflammatory omega-3 production from food sources. SOD2 variants affect antioxidant enzyme capacity during high training loads. HFE variants determine iron utilisation critical for endurance. A formula tuned to your genetic profile removes the guesswork from performance nutrition and targets the pathways your training actually stresses.

Who should use GNLAB?

GNLAB is for anyone who wants their nutrition grounded in their biology. It's a good fit if you've tried generic supplements and seen inconsistent results, if you have a known deficiency and want to understand the genetic component, if you train seriously and want your recovery stack to be precise, or if you simply want a single daily sachet you can trust instead of a shelf of bottles you're not sure about.

Results

When will I notice results?

Some people notice changes in energy, sleep quality, or focus within 2–3 weeks of consistent use. Slower benefits — bone density, cardiovascular markers, long-term oxidative resilience — take months to register measurably. DNA-personalised supplements are precision nutrition, not a stimulant. The value compounds over time as your body receives exactly what it needs, consistently, in forms it can actually absorb.
